However, a GTO 5 continues to conduct even if it blocks the ON gate signal, and the load current further increases, but since the breaker 4 is tripped after the prescribed time, the current is thereafter attenuated. Even if the load current exceeds the peak turn-off current at this time, no OFF gate signal is applied to the GTO 5. Accordingly, the GTO is not destroyed.
