Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the destroy of a GTO by stopping the supply of a gate control signal at the time of an overcurrent defect and breaking a high speed breaker. CONSTITUTION:When a load current exceeds a set protecting value, a level comparator 8 detects it, and the output of the comparator 8 becomes ''L'' level signal from ''H'' level signal. When the output gate control signal of a gate control signal generator 9 is blocked by AND circuits 10, 11, the trip coil 4a of a high speed breaker 4 is energized simultaneously. However, a GTO 5 continues to conduct even if it blocks the ON gate signal, and the load current further increases, but since the breaker 4 is tripped after the prescribed time, the current is thereafter attenuated. Even if the load current exceeds the peak turn-off current at this time, no OFF gate signal is applied to the GTO 5. Accordingly, the GTO is not destroyed.
