997,726. Locomotive driving gear. SCHWEIZERISCHE LOKOMOTIVUND MASCHINENFABRIK. Nov. 27, 1962, No. 44877/62. Heading B7H. A driving arrangement for a locomotive having both adhesion driving wheel drive and rack and pinion drive comprises an electric motor 12 mounted on the bogey frame 2 and driving the wheel axles 1 through gears 13, 14 and the two trains 16, 17, 18, and a pair of electric motors 33, one mounted on the bogey frame adjacent each axle 1 and driving a pinion 34 mounted on the axle 1 through a shaft 41 having resilient couplings 42, 43, a " slipping " clutch 45 and a train of gears 35, 36, 37, 38. Each gear wheel 18 has a resilient connection with the axle 1 comprising a member 20 having arms 21 connected to the gear 18 by springs 23 and a resilient connection between the pinion 34 and its mounting is afforded by spring 53. The clutch 45 prevents the transfer of undue torsional shocks. Each pinion 34 is mounted on an eccentric 56 rotatable by a control 55 to provide for height adjustment, e.g. to allow for wear on the driving wheels. In modifications, the gear trains 16, 17 and 18 are replaced by crank-shafts and connecting rods and, Fig. 6, the adhesion driving wheels are driven by a pair of motors 12a. In Fig. 7, a three axle bogey has wheel driving motors 12 and pinion driving motors 33. Specification 536,992 is referred to.
