Abstract
997,274. Shelling peas. COMMONWEALTH SCIENTIFIC & INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH ORGANIZATION. Sept. 11, 1963 [Sept. 19, 1962; March 18, 1963], No. 35893/63. Heading A4C. Pea pods fed through a steam chamber 11 are automatically fed end-on to the nip of a pair of spaced rollers 20, 21 whereby the pads are opened and pass through the rollers and the peas and unopened pods fall through a gap 24 in front of the rollers 20, 21, the peas being then separated from the unopened pods, the latter being fed to further opening rollers and the peas being carried away in a water channel 29. In operation, pods fed past rotary levelling brushes 9, through the steam chamber 11 and past water curtains 13 on an endless belt 3 drop into a longitudinally channelled tray 17 associated with a vibratory feeder 16 to be presented end-on to the rollers 20, 21. Pods passing through the rollers 20, 21 are removed by a screw conveyer 27 and released peas together with small pods fall through the gap 24 and into a second, vibratory feeder tray 25 having a perforated deck 28 through which the peas pass to the water channel 29. The unshelled peas are then treated by further rollers 30, 31 having an associated screw conveyer 34, the released peas and further unshelled peas being carried by a conveyer 33 back to the second tray 25.
