Abstract
913,538. Topping and tailing machines. PARSONS & SONS Ltd., LESLIE A. July 20, 1961 [July 29, 1960], No. 26495/60. Class 28 (2). A conveyer belt 1 has sets of vegetable holding members, each set comprising four inclined arms arranged in pairs 4 on opposite sides of the belt for carrying the vegetables for topping and tailing past circular knives (Fig. 3, not shown) parallel to and outside the arms 4. The arms may be stepped as shown to accommodate various sizes, and the angle of inclination from the normal to the belt may be between 5 and 30 (preferably 10) degrees. A vibrating shoot may be used to put the vegetables on the conveyer.
