Abstract

996,352. Crown corks. CROWN CORK CO. Ltd. May 4, 1962 [May 8, 1961], No. 17320/62. Addition to 897,833. Heading B8T. In a stopper of the kind described in the parent Specification the skirt of the metal shell 11 has a substantially cylindrical portion 12 between the base 11a and the flared crimped portion 13 which is provided with inwardly projecting beading formed by indentations 14 for engaging the beading 16 of the resilient insert 15. To facilitate removal of the shell 11 from the insert 15 an integral tab 17 is cut from the shell. The insert 15 may be formed of a resilient plastics material such as polyethylene or polyamides, when a metal disc 20 is provided to prevent deformation of the insert into the cut 17a of the tab 17. The insert 15 is provided with a plug portion 15c which extends into the container aperture. In a modification the plug portion 15c is replaced by a dish-shaped portion and the insert is formed from polystyrene, when the metal disc 20 may be omitted. A gasket of polyethylene or polyvinyl chloride is used to ensure efficient sealing.
