Abstract

995,984. Rotary-piston pumps. BRODRENE GRAM A.S. Nov. 7, 1963 [Nov. 16, 1962], No. 44044/63. Heading F1F. [Also in Division B1] A rotary-piston pump for mixing solid or semi-solid ingredients with a pressurized viscous fluid e.g. ice cream, comprises pairs of diametral vanes 9, 10 slidably mounted in mutually perpendicular slots in a rotor 7, 8 which is lodged in a housing 1 having abutment surfaces or wall portions 13, 15 shaped coaxially with the rotor as parts of cylindrical surfaces, the radius of curvature of surface 15 being substantially equal to that of the rotor and smaller than that of surface 13. A roller 20 fixed to an end cover 2 of the housing periodically engages with a shoulder 21 on each vane, as the rotor rotates, to align the leading edges of the vanes with surfaces 13, 15, excessive displacement of the vanes being prevented by recesses 22, 23. Pressurized ice cream enters the housing through an inlet 18 whereas the solid or semi-solid ingredients e.g. caramel, nuts, nougat or fruit, enter through a second inlet 14. The ice cream flows directly to an outlet 19 whereas said ingredients are conveyed to the outlet by the vanes on the rotor.
