Abstract

995,812. Drying apparatus. B. V. LECKNER. Nov. 25, 1963 [Nov. 26, 1962], No. 46476/63. Heading F4G. A drying roller 1, Fig. 1, for drying felts or like webs comprises groove-shaped channels running longitudinally for the passage of a gaseous medium either supplied from or withdrawn through a manifold 18 at least at one end of the roller. The walls of the channels are formed by plates 9, Fig. 4, extending radially from a central shaft 2, which plates are strengthened by apertured, perpendicular strips 12 inserted between adjacent plates which have vanes 10 attached thereto, the outer edges of which plates and vanes being disposed at the circumference of the roller and may be chamfered. The apertures 13 in the strips 12 are of such size, number and distribution to obtain a uniform or otherwise predetermined distribution of the medium flow across the web over its surface. The stationary manifold has a sectorshaped aperture 18<SP>1</SP> communicating with the channels when in front of the aperture and has a seal 19 inserted arranged about the aperture and a contact ring 7 on the roller end, uniform contact pressure being achieved by means of a resilient suspension of the manifold.
