Abstract
995,575. Endless conveyers. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. March 6, 1963 [March 6, 1962], No. 8916/63. Heading B8A. A movement transmitting system comprises a tubular closed circuit 1 containing contacting balls 2 of equal diameter which is less than the inside diameter of the tube 1, a rotating worm 3 for driving the balls around the circuit by rolling one upon the other, at least one loadbearing element 6 driven by the balls and a slot 14 along one side of the tube. The element 6 comprises two part spherical elements 7, 8 joined by a spindle 9 from which hangs a loadbearing hook 11. The latter passes through the slot 14 and is rotationally stabilized therein due to its rectangular cross-section. Two of these loading elements 6 may be spaced apart and carry between them a loading carriage, Fig. 4 (not shown). The driving worm 3 is mounted in a casing 4 within the circuit and rollers 5 laterally stabilize the balls 2 as they travel along the worm. Alternatively the balls may be driven by a toothed wheel, Fig. 6 (not shown). In circuits in which loads are elevated, Fig. 7 (not shown) a load-bearing carriage is provided having at its upper end a hook which engages the spindle 9 of the loadbearing ball 6 and at its lower end a roller which engages the outside of the tube. This carriage may be supported between two parallel vertical tubes, Fig. 8 (not shown), the balls in each of which may either be driven separately or by a common means. In circuits which have vertical, inclined and horizontal runs, the load may be borne by a collar pivotally secured to load-bearing balls in parallel circuits, Fig. 9 (not shown). The path of travel of the balls may be changed by means of a rotatable element containing passages filled with balls, by which circuits can be connected (see Fig. 10, not shown). The circuit may be made up of partial elements, Figs. 12, 13 (not shown), each formed by two parallel tube portions filled with balls and each element being connected to another by means of a U-shaped clip. The latter acts on a ball retaining spring at each end of the element and deflects it clear of the paths of the balls.
