Abstract
994,574. Flip couplings. ELLIOTT BROTHERS (LONDON) Ltd. Sept. 10, 1962 [June 14, 1961], No. 21559/61. Heading F2C. An overload slip clutch for servo-operated gear-boxes, comprises a hub 1, fast on a driving or driven shaft 10, having a radial flange 2 housing three balls 4 engaged between recesses 5a in either or both a pressure plate 6 and a plate formed by or attached to a driven or driving gear-wheel 5, the pressure plate 6 being biased by a coil or plate spring 11 towards the gear-wheel 5 which is axially retained by a back plate 7, the balls riding out of the recesses on overload. The back plate 7 may have a plain bearing face grooved to assist dust extraction, or may be replaced by a ball or roller thrust race, and the hub 1 is formed with a split end 9 clamped to the shaft 10 by a clamp 8.
