Abstract

1,019,138. Securing sleeves on shafts; bearings. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. Aug. 24, 1964 [Sept. 21, 1963], No. 37207/63. Headings F2A and F2U. In a motor vehicle change speed gear, wherein a sleeve 5 integral with a layshaft drive gear 11 is splined on an input shaft 1 and rotatably supported in a gear-box housing 9 by a ball or like bearing 7, the sleeve 5 has a pair of diametrically opposed slots extending from its periphery to its bore to accommodate a U- shaped spring clip 29 the intermediate portions of arms 33 of which engage a circumferential groove 25 in the shaft to prevent relative axial movement of the shaft and sleeve in either direction, and the base 35 and free ends 37 of which engage the bearing inner race 17 to hold the latter against a shoulder 31 on the sleeve. The bearing outer race 19 is held against a shoulder 23 in the housing 9 by a clip 21.
