Abstract
868,210. Friction clutches. CLAROSTAT MFG. CO. Inc. Jan. 26, 1959 [July 24, 1958], No. 2722/59. Class 80 (2). [Also in Group XXXVI] A friction clutch 37 for coupling the control shafts 21, 22 of two or more potentiometers 10, 11 comprises a spring clip 37 fast with a contact rotor 25 fixed to the control shaft 22, the ends of which spring, in the disengaged position shown, lie in a groove 35 on the shaft 21, permitting individual control of each potentiometer, and are engaged by leftward movement of the shaft 21 whereupon the spring 37 frictionally engages the shaft 21 (Fig. 5, not shown) for dual control of the potentiometers. The end of the shaft 21 is formed with diametrically opposed flats and engages a complementary bore in the contact rotor 26, allowing relative axial movement between the shaft and rotor whilst securing them rotationally.. Each of the rotors 25, 26 carries a pair of contacts 28 which engage stationary resistances 24, and the terminal contacts 17 are connected to resilient arms 29 which bear against the rotors. In Figs. 8 and 9 (not shown) the 'potentiometers are spaced axially each having an individual mounting bush 20.
