Abstract

994,571. Continuous metal-heating furnaces; hearths. SALEM - BROSIUS (ENGLAND) Ltd. July 3, 1961 [July 1, 1960], No. 23030/60. Heading F4B. In a continuous furnace of the pusher type with water-cooled skid rails 2 mounted on water-cooled supports 3 in the heating zone, the soaking hearth 7 is formed with heating ducts 6 opening at one end into the downwardly inclined ramp 8 and at the other by downwardly inclined extensions into the heating zone. The ducts are provided with burners at the heating zone end, one in alignment with the skid rails, and one cranked to avoid cooling pipes 9 in the ramp surface. The skid rails comprise bars 4, Fig. 6, disposed on elongatedsection pipes 5 having substantially the same width. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the burners are at the ramp end of the ducts, and in further modifications, Figs. 4 and 5 (not shown), ducts with their burner ends outside the furnace extend respectively to the ramp and the heating zone.
