Abstract
1,236,033. Heat treatment furnaces. STEIN & ROUBAIX. 24 Oct., 1968 [25 Oct., 1967], No. 50457/68. Heading F4B. In a furnace for use in heating metal ingots 5 comprising at least one heating zone 2 and a soaking zone 6, the soaking hearth 7, located at substantially the same height as water-cooled slides in the zone 2, includes grooves 12 for receiving the arms 10 of an ingot extractor machine, the arms entering through a retractable gate 9, and channels 13 which form projections of the slides 4 and along which combustion gases from a burner 15, situated in a chamber 14 located below the plane of the hearth 7 and directed towards the exit from the furnace, pass towards the entry end of the furnace thus reheating the underside of the ingots. To remove oxide deposits formed by the passage of the ingots over the hearth 7, a special ingot (56, Fig. 5) having scrapers which pass through the channels 13 is used, the scoria removed in this way falling into the chamber 14 and a discharge duct 21.
