Abstract
<PICT:0994439/C1/1> A process for roasting sulphur containing minerals, e.g. pyrites in a multiple hearth furnace (see Division F4) comprises passing the minerals from a hopper r on to a first hearth a where the temperature is 800 DEG to 1100 DEG C. The mineral is kept in suspension by agitators t rotating with a cooled shaft l1. Material which is not completely desulphurized falls on to hearth b through opening P and there undergoes a further desulphurization. From hearth b it falls to hearth c and hence out of the furnace.
