In a symmetrical photographic and reproduction lens corrected spherically, astigmatically, chromatically and for coma the lens halves on each side of the plane of symmetry each comprise a single inner element and a cemented outer component or a single inner element and an outer component made up of two closely spaced elements, the inner elements and the outer components all being convergent, the focal length of each of the two inner elements being between 1.75 and 3 times the focal length of the entire lens and the focal length of each of the two outer components being between 4 and 25 times the focal length of the entire lens. Optical data are given for an example of each of the two alternatives.
