993,159. Reservoir pens. PARKER PEN CO. March 30, 1962 [April 7, 1961], No. 12310/62. Heading B6P. A ball-point pen comprises a socket 12 communicating with a reservoir (not shown) and a ball 11 rotatably mounted in the socket. The socket comprises an annular seating against which the ball is forced during normal use, an annular groove 18 to prevent ink starvation of the ball, spaced outwardly of the seating, and communicating. with the reservoir via a number of grooves 16, a continuous metering ring . 20 in engagement with the ball. The annular groove 18 is between the seating and ring 20. A continuous annular retaining lip is in substantial engagement with ball, and a collector groove 28 between the ring 20 and lip. As the ball rotates in use, ink adheres to the ball in the vicinity of the groove 18, the clearance between the ball 11 and ring 20 determines the thickness of the ink layer. The collector groove 28 is normally only partially filled with ink since ink is removed therefrom during rotation of the ball.
