Abstract
Alkali glass is treated in a molten mass containing lithium sulphate and potassium sulphate in the weight ratio of 3: 1 and 0.5 to 5.0 per cent by weight of the hydrogen sulphate of an alkali metal at a temperature near its softening point (between 560 DEG and 700 DEG C.). Treatment in this manner improves the mechanical strength and resistance to thermal shock. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 786,951.
