Abstract

In the manufacture of objects of quartz glass in which quartz is melted and cooled to form the object, such quartz object is heated in a hydrogen containing atmosphere at a temperature between 400 DEG and 1000 DEG C., whereby discoloration by irradiation with short wave ionizing radiation is reduced. Best results are obtained by heating at 500 DEG C. Specification 1,003,973 is referred to.
