Abstract
A blasting agent is produced by granulating furnace slag by suddenly cooling it, subjecting the resulting granulated slag to a heating operation sufficient only to fuse the surface layer of the individual granules without causing concomitant coagulation of the granules, and thereafter cooling the product. As described, slags having the composition SiO2 25-45% CaO+MgO 35-60%, Al2O3 8-25%, and the ratio CaO/SiO2=0.8-2, are granulated by quenching, while molten, in water and the granulated slag then heated by radiation or convection.ALSO:A blasting agent is produced by granulating furnace slag by suddenly cooling it, subjecting the resulting granulated slag to a heating operation sufficient only to fuse the surface layer of the individual granules without causing concomitant coagulation of the granules, and thereafter cooling the product.
