992,633. Rotary pumps. DRUM ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. March 23, 1962 [April 8, 1961], No.12743/61. Heading F1F. A rotary pump comprises a rotor 10 mounted eccentrically within a casing and rollers 19 mounted in slots in the rotor. The rotor is mounted between two end plates 13 (Figs. 4 and 5), the sides facing the rotor (Fig. 4) having an arcuate channel 22 passing through the outlet region 18 of the pump and an arcuate channel 23 in the inlet region 17. These channels, which extend through over 180 degrees and less than 90 degrees respectively, communicate with the slots under the rollers, and with the outlet and inlet through bores 25, 26 and 29, 30 respectively and channels 27, 31 in the opposite sides of the end plates. Recesses 40 are also formed in the leading wall of each slot, and extend over part of the axial length of the rotor, to balance the pressures inside and outside the slots. These recesses may be replaced by bores.
