Abstract

963,736. Rotary pumps. MERRITT & CO. (ENGINEERING) Ltd. Aug. 10, 1960 [Aug. 12, 1959], No. 27523/59. Heading F1F. The clearance 6 between the outer rotor 2 and the casing 3 of an n and n + 1 lobe pump, adjacent the high pressure outlet communicates with the high pressure chamber. The clearance communicates with the high pressure chamber by radial bores 12a or by a groove 20 connected to the high pressure port 5 and an axial channel 21 in the casing. The communication may be by grooves in the end faces of the outer rotor 2. The clearance may be augmented by additional passages in the periphery of the rotor.
