Abstract

992,340. Ashpans. RADIATION Ltd. Dec. 14, 1962 [Feb. 2, 1962], No. 4178/62. Heading F4W. An ashpan is provided with a removable cover which may be secured in position on the ashpan whilst a discharge opening for the disposal of ash is left open. As shown in Fig. 3, the ashpan comprises side walls 3 and 4 joined at the rear by wall 9 and at the front by stiffening bar 2. The open front provides the discharge opening. Side walls 3 and 4 are provided with outwardly-turned flanges 5 and 6, respectively, having block stops 7 and 8, respectively. The ashpan cover, Fig. 2, is provided with channel-shaped guideways 15 and 16 which receive the flanges 5 and 6, respectively, with their associated block stops. An inclined flange 13 on the cover serves to level off the ash as the cover is slid on to the ashpan. On lifting the cover by a handle (not shown), cutaway portions 17 and 18 receive the block stops to secure the cover in position. The channel-shaped guideways may be formed on the ashpan to receive opposite sides of a flat cover which is provided with upwardly-projecting block stops for engagement with cutaway portions in the upper sides of the guideways. In a modified ashpan, Fig. 5 (not shown), the stiffening bar of the ashpan of Fig. 3 is dispensed with and the bottom of the ashpan has an upwardly inclined portion at its forward end.
