Abstract
992,015. Road sweeping machines. S. VOLSTAD. July 27, 1961 [Aug. 1, 1960], No. 27193/61. Heading E1G. A road sweeping machine comprises a rotatable cylindrical brush 7 and at least one collecting tray 2, 3 mounted within a casing 1 which can be lifted by means of stays 15, 16 and the hydraulic mechanism of a propelling tractor (not shown), when the trays are to be tilted for emptying. The brush shaft 6 carries at one end a friction wheel 8 which is driven by road wheels 9. Alternatively, a motor (not shown) may be provided for driving the brush. At the other side of the machine roadwheels 10 are located inwardly of the ends of the brush to allow the brush to operate close to a kerb, wall &c. The trays 2, 3 are held in the dirt-receiving position by the engagement of hooks 4 with edges 5 on the cover 1. Water is supplied to a spray pipe 17 with a pump (not shown) and hose 19 from a tank mounted on the tractor. In an alternative embodiment (not shown) two channels in the rear of the machine receive the prongs of a fork lift truck and the water tank and pump are mounted on the machine itself.
