Abstract

991,774. Variable resistors. GLOBE-UNION Inc. March 21, 1962, No. 10764/62. Heading H1S. A variable resistor comprises an insulating base 10, carrying an arcuate resistance element 12, a knob member, operable to rotate a contact arm 28, having a tongue 36 protruding through an aperture in the base 10, the end of the tongue being enlarged to hold the knob in position. The contact arm 28 forms part of a rotor 22, Fig. 3, having upwardly projecting ears 30 which enter slots in the knob, so that the rotor rotates with the knob. The rotor is held by a hollow rivet which also provides electrical connection to the contact arm. The knob has a skirt portion 40 providing a dust-excluding housing for the contact member. The knob and tongue portion may be integrally moulded from thermoplastic, the end of the tongue being enlarged by the application of heat.
