Abstract

991,688. Suction lifting devices. VACUUM CONCRETE CORPORATION OF AMERICA. Nov. 5, 1963 [Feb. 7, 1963], No. 43711/63. Heading B8H. A suction lifting device 10, Fig. 3, has two resilient gaskets 14, 16 mounted on a plate 12 and interconnected by tubes 34 the aggregate cross sectional area of which is less than that of a port 20 through which the device is exhausted. When the gasket 14 contacts the load the vacuum is applied thereby exhausting an inner chamber 18 and compressing the gasket to give a good seal. This movement ensures that the gasket 16 contacts the load so that an outer chamber 30 may be exhausted through the tubes 34. The ratio of the area of the port 20 to that of the aggregate of the tubes 34 may be between 1.1 and 96.0 and is preferably between 25 and 50, 36 being satisfactory. Similarly the ratio of the areas of chambers 30 and 18 is between 2.5 and 16.0, preferably 5.
