The metal condensation shield 11 inside the evacuated envelope 13 of a vacuum switch is corrugated longitudinally, 12, to increase its surface area. The shield may be a cylinder as shown, with parallel corrugations or may be barrel-shaped or alternatively it may be a solid body having a barrel-shaped corrugated internal surface. A further disc-shaped shield 21 protects a bellows seal 19.
