Abstract

1,246,321. Piston packing; seals. MINNESOTA RUBBER CO. 11 Sept., 1968 [20 Sept., 1967], No. 43279/68. Headings F2B and F2T. An elastomeric sealing ring has a generally rectangular cross-section with convex lobes 9- 12 at each corner and a further convex lobe 25, 26 on each of two opposed sides of the ring, which further lobes 25, 26 protrude outwardly beyond the adjacent corner lobes. The protruding lobes may be on the radially spaced sides of the ring as in Fig. 2 or on the axially spaced sides as in Fig. 3. In use as a piston packing, Fig. 5 (not shown), the sealing ring is housed in a groove (8) in the piston 6 and compressed between the bottom of the groove and the cylinder wall (7).
