Abstract
1,069,556. Piston and piston rod packing. MINNESOTA RUBBER CO. Aug. 27, 1965 [June 24, 1965], No. 36989/65. Headings F2B and F2T. Sealing means between relatively movable members, such as a piston 7 or piston rod (8) and cylinder 6, comprises a continuous flexible sealing ring 9 of channel section housed in a groove 7a in one of the members and urged into contact with the other member by a back-up ring 10 of resilient material having both its inner and outer peripheral surfaces concave at 10a and 10c to provide projecting corners 10e, 10h and 10f, 10g respectively whereby the ring 10 engages the bottom of the groove at points 14 and 15 and the ring 9 at points 16 and 17. The sides of the ring 10 are also concave at 10b and 10d. The ring 10 is of rubber and the ring 9 of polytetrafluoroethylene.
