Abstract
991,007. Advancing mine roof supports. DOWTY MINING EQUIPMENT Ltd. May 21, 1963 [May 25, 1962], No. 20198/62. Heading F1P. [Also in Division G4] In a roof support assembly wherein a series of fluid pressure operated roof supports are advanceable in a predetermined sequence, the number of roof supports advanced, is counted by means sensitive to variations in the condition of. fluid in a conduit along which fluid flows when each support undergoes an advancing operation. As shown, the number of supports advanced is recorded by a counter 20 sensitive to changes in pressure in a supply conduit connected to the roof supports. The counter 20 comprises a piston 24 slidable in a bore 25, and having a piston rod 23 connected by a lever 22 to the operating shaft 21 of a counting mechanism 18 which has a display window 19. The piston 24 is continuously urged towards a stop 27 by a spring 28 and by fluid pressure supplied to the bore 25 through a port 29. Pressure in the supply conduit is communicated through a port 32 to a chamber 31 so that each time a roof support undergoes an advancing operation, the fall in pressure which occurs in the supply conduit allows the piston 24 to move to the position shown and thereby move the shaft 21 to add one to the number shown in the window 19. A port 34 of a piston housing 38 is connected to a further conduit which becomes pressurised when an advancing sequence has been completed to thereby move a piston rod 39 and return the counter to zero. In a second embodiment a flowmeter located in a return conduit from the supports, senses the advancing operations and operates a counting mechanism. Specification 991,008 is referred to.
