Abstract

1,117,312. Advancing mine roof supports. COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd. Oct. 18, 1965 [Oct. 16, 1964], No.42335/64. Heading F1P. When a mine roof support 2 deviates from a predetermined direction due to sliding &c. during advance by a hydraulic jack 4, the deviation is detected and a jack 6 is caused to operate so as to restore the alignment of the support in response to the deviation detected. In the embodiment shown a mine roof support 2 standing on a sloping floor is advanceable up to a conveyer 1 by contracting the jack 4 and if the support deviates from a position perpendicular to the conveyer 1 the deviation is detected by a device 5 which causes operation of the jack 6 to restore the support to the perpendicular position. The jack 6 has one end connected to the support 2 and the other end connected to a lever 7 pivoted at one end to the support 2 and provided at the other end with a roller 8 which reacts against an adjacent support 3. The device 5, Fig.2, controls the rate at which fluid leaks from a flexible line 14 and thus creates a pressure therein dependent on the deviation of the support from the perpendicular position. The fluid in the line 14 is supplied from a pressure line P through a support advance control valve 9 and a restrictor 13. Pressure in the line 14 influences a pilot operated control valve 10 loaded by pressure fluid bled through a line 16 from the line P to either connect the jack 6 to the pressure line P, to a return line R or to isolate same. In a second embodiment the support may alternatively, or additionally, be caused to align with a vertical plane or a plane perpendicular to the roof, the deviation being detected by a pendulum operated device.
