Abstract

1,068,197. Pneumatic single stroke apparatus. J. K. O. CUTTERS Ltd. Sept. 10, 1965 [Oct. 14, 1964], No.41945/64. Heading F1P. [Also in Division F2] The piston rod (7), Fig. 2 (not shown) of a compressed air actuated piston (6) slidable in a cylinder (2) passes through seals (11, 12) in a partition (9) into a liquid-filled dashpot cylinder (1) in which a second piston (5) secured to the rod (7) moves, whereby liquid is forced to flow from one side of the piston (5) to the other through a restriction (23) adjustable to control the speed of the pistons, and fluid from either cylinder which leaks past the seals (11) enters cavities (15, 16) formed in the partition (9) thus preventing contamination of one fluid by the other. Air which leaks past the lower seal (11) from the cylinder (2) is exhausted to atmosphere through the cavity (15) and a duct (18), whereas liquid which leaks past the upper seal (11) flows into the cavity (16) and a duct (19) connected by a pipe (25) to a reservoir. The pipe (25) is also connected to a cavity (17) formed in an end cap (10) having seals (13, 14) for the actuating end of the piston rod (7). The cap (10) has formed therein an orifice connected by a pipe to a pressure relief chamber for allowing expansion of the liquid. The chamber is defined by one end of a cylinder and by the movable face of a piston having a piston rod loaded externally by a spring.
