990,970. Stud and socket fastenings. AERPAT A.G. April 28, 1961, No. 15435/61. Heading E2B. [Also in Division F2] A releasable fastener comprises a housing 10, a bolt 16 formed of a plurality of separate longitudinally extending segments 17, 18, the bolt having an enlarged head portion 22 slidably but non-rotatably secured in a portion 12 of a central axially extending bore 11 of the housing and engaging a shoulder 14 in the housing and a threaded stem portion which projects from the housing, a plunger 25 extending axially between the bolt segments and a spring 30 acting between a head portion 27 of the plunger and the bolt head portion, the plunger having means 26 adapted under the force of the spring to spread the bolt segments apart at the projecting threaded portion so that in use the threaded portion can engage an internally threaded socket 21 and the bolt being releasable from the socket by depression of the plunger head portion. In the construction shown the means 26 is a wedge-shaped enlargement of the plunger. The housing is attached to a plate 35 by means of a circlip 38 and in use the plate 35 is riveted to a panel 36 so that the stem portion of the bolt projects through the panel to engage the socket which is riveted to a second panel. In a modification however the plate 35 is omitted and the shell is provided with an external shoulder which engages a surface on the panel 36. The socket with which the fastener is used is attached to the panel 39 by means of a mounting member 42, riveted to the panel 39.
