Abstract

1,270,248. Captive nuts. HALLAM, SLEIGH & CHESTON Ltd. 4 July, 1969 [22 June, 1968], No. 29900/68. Heading F2H. A fastener for securing a panel 13 to a frame 11 comprises a nut 18 held captive in a U-shaped retainer member 14 forming a guideway 19 along which the nut is urged by a spring 20. Each limb 15 of the member 14 abuts two adjacent facets of the hexagonal nut and is provided at its extremity with a flange 16 secured to the frame 11 by a screw and nut 17. A bolt 12 with a reduced diameter shank is held captive in the panel 13 by a washer, circlip, grommet or C-clip 25 or by clenching, swaging or providing a screw thread in an aperture in the panel for receiving the bolt, or the reduced diameter shank portion (23) (Fig. 1, not shown) is inserted through a hole in the panel which is of smaller diameter than the thread portion (24) prior to securing the head of the bolt.
