Abstract

1,166,907. Threaded fasteners. FORD MOTOR CO. Ltd. 11 July, 1967 [28 July, 1966; 18 April, 1967], No. 31806/67. Heading F2H. In a set of threaded fasteners each fastener comprises a head 12 and threaded shank 14, each fastener has a different proof load from the other fasteners of the set, and each fastener has when tightened to its proof load a contact area 36, 38 with members 22, 24 against which it is tightened such that the bearing stress exerted by the fastener equals that exerted by each of the other fasteners of the set. As shown, each fastener comprises a nut 26 and bolt 10 both provided respectively with flanges 28 and 18 forming at least part of the bearing surfaces 38, 36. The bolt 10 may be provided with a cut-out portion 32 between the head 12 and shank 14 and the nut 26 may be provided with a bore having a chamfered end and a threadless portion 34 which in co-operation with a pilot portion 33 of the bolt ensures correct location of the bolt within the nut. In alternative arrangements each fastener may comprise a stud and nut, or a screw.
