Abstract

980,500. Locking bolts. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. June 22, 1961 [June 29, 1960], No. 22708/60. Heading F2H. A bolt 1 is locked or unlocked against rotation by upward or downward movement of a plunger 2 (biased upwardly in a bore 1e by a spring 6) so that the plunger head 2a acts on a ball 4 in a transverse bore 1g to move it outwardly or inwardly and locate in a longitudinal groove 5a on the inner face of a bush 5 which may have many grooves and is separate from the bolt but can be keyed against rotation in the bottom of a bore into which the bolt 1 is screwed. Depression of the plunger 2 releases the ball 4 so that the bolt 1 can be unscrewed.
