[Also in Division G1] A gyroscopic rotor 1210 has a smooth spherical outer surface and is rotated by a tangential stream of fluid issuing from at least one nozzle 1256 which is mounted for unidirectional rotation about the axis k, the rotor 1210 being supported by a fluid bearing. As shown, the fluid bearing is formed by concave surface 1214 co-operating with a convex spherical surface of a bearing member 1212 on a stem 1220, the bearing fluid passing through a passageway 1224 to an outlet orifice. The stem 1220 and spherical housing 1228 carrying nozzle 1256 are rotated by a motor 1252 and gearing 1248, 1250. In a modification the fluid bearing support is concave and cooperates with a convex part of the rotor.
