Abstract
989,868. Drum brakes. W. BINDER, [trading as BINDER MAGNATE KOMM.- GES.]. March 20, 1963 [April 9, 1962], No. 11095/63. Heading F2E. In a spring-engaged, electromagneticallyreleased internal shoe drum brake, two shoes 1, 2, with linings 6 are biased into engagement with a brake drum by a spring 5 and released by energizing a fixed coil 8 surrounding the free ends of the brake shoes 1, 2, the magnetic circuit being completed through the shoes 1, 2 the spaced free ends of which provide a single air gap. Rubber buffers 10, carried by a fixed housing, define the inner retracted position of the shoes when the coil is energized, the shoes being pivoted on a common pin 3 with their ends interengaged in a hinged manner to provide negligible resistance to the magnetic flux path. A short-circuited winding 9 may be incorporated in the free end of one of the shoes for operation on A.C. supply.
