Abstract

942,653. External shoe-drum brakes. ROBEY & CO. Ltd., and A. CROMPTON. Dec. 7, 1959 [Dec. 11, 1958], No. 39960/58. Heading F2E. A brake comprises a member 4 carrying shoe 5 sliding in guides 3 attached to a fixed housing 1 which carries a solenoid 2, the plunger 8 of which is fixed to member 4. Springs 6 under compression bias shoe 5 against a rotating member and energization of solenoid 2 withdraws the shoe. The springs 6 may be under tension to release the brake which is applied on energizing solenoid 2. Specification 846,555 is referred to.
