A disc brake for cranes comprises a brake disc A mounted on a driving-shaft 8 and brake pads b carried by pivoted brake arms d are adapted to be urged into frictional contact with the axiallyextending sides of the brake disc by spring members d3 and released by energization of an electric solenoid E which acts through lever arrangements D<SP>2</SP> to actuate a cam mounted on a cam-shaft D<SP>1</SP> which moves adjustable rods apart to separate the brake arms d and disengage the brake pads b from the brake disc. Springs d<SP>1</SP> on screws d2, attached to pressureplates Bl on which the brake pads b are mounted, allow the pressure-plates to rock as the arms d pivot.
