Abstract

989,348. Centrifugal fans. AMERICAN AIR FILTER CO. Inc. Sept. 20, 1961 [Sept. 26, 1960], No. 33674/61. Heading F1C. In a scroll-shaped centrifugal fan housing the main part is of substantially rectangular crosssection in planes containing or lying parallel to the scroll axis, and a portion of the housing leading up to the fluid outlet is outwardly flared in such a way that the outlet is of trapezoidal cross-section. A fan casing, Fig. I, has a trapezoidal outlet formed by walls 8, 20 and 26. Each wall 20 is flared outwardly from the plane of the adjacent end cover 10, preferably at an angle of between 10 and 20 degrees, the junction line 18 preferably being at an angle of 45 degrees to the horizontal plane. The wall 8 and the walls 20 may be curved and integral with or separate from the scroll wall 2 and the end covers 10 respectively, the latter being formed with axial inlets 14. For multi-fan units with the fans arranged in parallel, adjacent fans may be interconnected by a member, Fig. 5, formed with sloping walls 20, 20a of the outlets of adjacent fans, which walls are preferably lap-joined to the edges of the side walls 10. The wall 8 may be of a length sufficient to extend along the front of several fan housings.
