Abstract

989,161. Turbine plant. STAL LAVAL TURBIN A.B. April 1, 1964 [May 13, 1963], No. 13397/64. Heading F1Q. [Also in Divisions B7 and F2] In a ship having a high pressure turbine 1 and a low pressure turbine 2 with condenser 3, the first stage in the reduction of the turbine speed to the propeller speed is provided by an epicyclic gearing 7 with an input shaft 12 which is coupled to one of the turbine shafts and passed through a hollow output shaft 11 from the epicyclic gearing, this latter shaft carrying between the epicyclic gearing and the turbine a gear pinion 10 forming part of the second stage and meshed with a gear wheel 9 on the propeller shaft 6. The axes of the gear pinions 10 and the propeller shaft 6 are in the same horizontal plane, and the casing 13 enclosing the gearing is rectangular in plan with four supports, one at the centre of each side of the rectangle.
