A series of U-shaped wrapper supports 17, Fig. 5, are pushed stepwise along a guide track 20 by pistons 28 to a first position or station where they are each in turn supplied with wrappers or strips 1, Figs. 1, 2, having carrying holes 10 and holes 7 to engage the tops of a batch of bottles. By a further movement of the pistons 28 the most forward support 17 with its strip is moved to a second station where it receives a batch of bottles supplied from a track 11, as shown. The forward support 17, complete with strip and bottles, is then moved forwardly again by the pistons 28 to pass beneath a stationary folder 32 which folds the flap 2 of the strip down over the bottle tops. The support 17 is then moved sideways and then rearwardly back to a position adjacent its start by further pistons, Fig. 3 (not shown). During this latter rearward movement the stationary folder 33 folds down the flap 6, the packed bottles are removed to a delivery track, and the empty support 17 returned by another sideways movement to a position in front of the pistons 28 for another cycle of operation.
