Abstract

989,088. Erecting boxes. STEIGER A.G. Nov. 20, 1963 [Dec. 27, 1962], No. 48619/62. Heading B5D. A former 10 carrying heating means 16 reciprocating in a die 11 heat seals flaps on end walls of a box blank to adjacent side walls of the box which carry heat-sensitive adhesive. The heating means are preferably electricity conducting coils powered from a low voltage power supply and may be continuously heated or thermostatically controlled at a temperature between 100‹ and 350‹ C. Apertures 18 are provided to allow heat dissipation. The die consists of a pair of vertical side pieces with outwardly splayed ends for folding the side walls and a pair of bars 12 which are profiled to fold up the end walls and turn the flaps inwardly to lie inside the side walls. Freely rotatable spring-loaded rollers 15 press the sides of the blank into contact with the flaps. The former 10 may dwell within the die. A plate 14 remains stationary whilst the former 10 is retracted and thus strips the box therefrom and allows it to fall on to a conveyer 17.
