Abstract

1334378 Sheet forming CONFIDO TREUHAND-UND REVISIONS AG 26 Nov 1970 [27 Nov 1969 10 Aug 1970] 56261/70 Heading B5A Apparatus for forming a packaging element from sheet expanded polystyrene, or P.V.C., or polyethylene, comprises a housing formed in halves 1 and 2 which can be moved together by actuators 9 and 10, respectively, to clamp a sheet 19 by means of the edges 25 and 26, the housing having connections 29 and 30 for a fluid preheating medium, e.g. steam, the apparatus also including tool holders 13 and 14 which can be moved by actuators 15 and 16, respectively, to shape the sheet, before it is cooled by a cooling fluid, e.g. cold air, admitted through the connections 31 and 32. In an alternative arrangement a die 12 is raised to contact the sheet after preheating, and the sheet is formed by excess pressure in the upper half 1. In Figs. 2 and 3, not shown, a sheet is clamped in a frame (46), in a preheat portion of a housing (50), and then moved laterally through closeable gates (44), (45) into a forming portion of a housing (51). The apparatus of Fig. 4, not shown, has a preheat section (50), a forming section (51) for a sheet (48), and a preheating station (78) for a second sheet (79) fed at right angles to the sheet (48) to provide a two layer moulding (82). In Fig. 5, not shown, heating or cooling air is introduced to the container by fans (20), and (21). Dyes, lacquers or strengthening agents can be sprayed on to the sheet in the preheat zone.
