Abstract

915,087. Packaging-machines; packages. NEVINS CO. Aug. 18, 1960 [Nov.20, 1959], No. 28631/60. Class 94(1). A machine for forming " blister packages " comprises a series of recessed holders carried on a rotatable table, a blank consisting of an apertured card covered with plastic film being placed on a holder with the aperture over the recess and being conveyed past heating, blister forming, filling, folding, sealing and heat shrinking stations. Each blank is placed on a holder 58, located by lugs 62, and carried beneath an arcuate heater 65 by continuous anti-clockwise, Fig. 1, movement of the table 52. It then passes] beneath a vertically moveable punch 68 mounted on beam 75 pivoting about the table axis. A pad 88 initially engages the blank and the punch then presses the film 29 into the recess 60, Fig. 3. Vacuum is applied through the table and holder from a fixed chamber 97 to assist the forming process. The punch travels with the holder until withdrawn and is then returned by means 150, 152 operating on the beam 75. An article 33 is placed manually or automatically in the blister and the blank folded over at 119, Fig. 8, by bars 108, 109, 110, a part 115 of the bar 108 entering a groove 117 in the holder to initiate folding. Heat sealing strips 125, 126 on vertically reciprocating means 130 mounted on the beam 75 then seal together the folded halves. Rollers 139 on the sealer engage the holder, Fig. 6, so that the beam is moved by the holder until the sealer is raised. This movement also moves the punch in the manner previously described. Finally, heated air is blown up through the holder to shrink the blister, preferably from a chamber 156 similar to the chamber 97.
