Abstract

987,643. Bobbins. BRITISH NYLON SPINNERS Ltd. Oct. 15, 1963 [Dec. 7, 1962]; No. 46385/62. Heading B8M. A bobbin, providing improved yarn take-off characteristics for continuous filament yarn having a dressing thereon, comprises a tubular body or sleeve 2 of plastics material or of fibrous material impregnated with plastics material having one end portion at least-constituting the nose of the bobbin-provided wholly or substantially wholly with an uncorrugated surface having irregularities engraved or scored therein sufficient to render it non- glossy. It is stated that these irregularities will prevent a film of the dressing from forming and thus prevent " snatching " as the yarn is unwound. The irregularities, which may be grooves or roughenings formed by sand blasting, or using emery paper, may extend the whole length of the sleeve 2, with possibly one or more axial "flats" left along the length of the sleeve. The sleeve 2 is mounted on a steel tube 1 having a plastics nose plug 3.
