Abstract
987,402. Valves. PLESSEY CO. Ltd. July 14, 1961 [May 9,1960], No. 16329/60. Heading G3H. A flow control device comprises a number of orifices a, b, c, d, e, f, g, h, arranged in series along the path of flow and a single obturating member 2 which has portions co-operating with each orifice and which is movable to simultaneously adjust all the orifices by displacing each portion transversely to the direction of flow in its associated orifice. The orifices are provided by notches in a disc 1 which is mounted in a cavity in a housing 3 into which an inlet passage 4 and outlet passage 5 are provided. The disc 1 is stationary in the housing and, in order to vary the flow through the orifices, the obturating member, in the form of a second identical disc 2 having notches 7, is rotatably mounted as shown in Fig. 2. By rotating the disc 2 the overlap of the notches varies the flow therethrough. The discs are provided with passages 9,10 so that the flow from the inlet 4 to the outlet 5 is of sinuous form. The notches may be of semi-circular shape or replaced by a series of holes.
