Abstract

1486440 Fluid regulation RE SELF 5 Dec 1974 [5 Dec 1973] 52562/74 Heading G3H [Also in Division F2] A high-pressure throttling device include a multiplicity of passageways of spiral configuration arranged in parallel flow relationship. In the embodiment shown the device is incorporated in an adjustable valve assembly and comprises a stack of annular discs 38 each provided with a respective row of spiral passageways 40, 41 in each face inter-connected by axial passages 42, 43. Thus fluid entering each passageway via passage 40a, passes around spiral 40b, through passages 42, 41a, around spiral 41b and leaves via passages 43, 44. The fluid may flow in the reverse direction if desired. The discs may be stacked with respective spirals in each row axially aligned to provide communication between passageways in adjacent discs. Alternatively, the spirals may be arranged to overlie lands on the adjacent discs so that the passageways are separate. Each disc may have only one row or more than two rows of spirals. The spirals may be formed in only one face of a disc. The discs may be of stainless steel, bronze, brass or plastics material.
