Abstract
981,995. Valves. W. ODENDAHL. March 22, 1963 [March 23, 1962], No. 11393/63. Heading F2V. [Also in Division G3] A multi-stage throttling valve device comprises a valve housing 5, a valve spindle 1 displaceable axially in a bore in the housing, this bore at one end communicating with an inlet 12 for pressure fluid and at its other end comprising an outlet 14, the bore being formed with a plurality of axially spaced lands 8, the spaces between the lands constituting flow chambers, and the spindle being formed with a plurality of sets of throttling channels 11 alternating with plain parts of the spindle which engage the lands in closed position to isolate the successive sets of throttling channels from each other. The channels of each set comprise multi-start spiral channels, the sets being alternately of opposite hand, and the individual channels increase in cross-sectional area in the direction of flow as shown. The channels may be provided each with a series of transverse baffles 15 which extend across one-half of the cross-section, Fig. 3, whereby the flow acquires a rotational component of flow as indicated. The device may be used for the decompression of high-pressure superheated steam, a further inlet 18, 20 being provided in the region of the first set of channels whereby feed water or condensate may be introduced with the object of de-superheating the steam. The spindle has a conical closure surface 3 at the entrance to the channels.
