986,793. Pipes; pipe couplings. S. SMITH & SONS (ENGLAND) Ltd. July 14, 1961 [Sept. 13, 1960], No. 31554/60. Headings F2G and F2P. A pipe 10 formed of elastic material, such as a rubber or a rubber-like plastic, has at either or each end thereof two encircling rings 11, 12 spaced axially apart the presence of each ring increasing the resistance of the pipe to radial expansion at those localities embraced by the rings without impairing the elasticity of the material at the locality between the rings. As shown the rings which may be of nylon or polypropylene are moulded on to the pipes and are inter-connected by integral, circumferentially spaced webs 13, the ring 12 extending over a part or the whole of the end face of the pipe. The conical enlargement 16 of a fitting 15 inserted into the pipe lies between the rings and causes the wall of the pipe to bulge outwardly.
